History
  • Introduced into cultivation in California by Theodore Payne.
  • From California Native Plants, Theodore Payne's 1941 catalog: "Biennial 5 to 8 feet high. A showy plant with whitish green foliage and large crimson-scarlet flowers. Very striking when planted among shrubs or in the background of wide borders. Gallon cans, 35c."
