About Water Needs

The amount of water described in the section is in very loose terms.  For example, some plants that want regular in their growth or flowering periods may want no water in their dormant season such as the Humboldt Lily. Some plants will survive on "very little water", but thrive on "moderate water". This guide tries to show the water needs for optimum growth.

The locale of the garden will have a huge impact on how much water the plants will need. Coastal locations will need less water than inland locations. Plants that thrive in Northern California will need more water if they planted in Southern California locations. It is always best to look at the locales in which the plants naturally exist in to determine their needs. Much of this information can be found be reading the individual descriptions within this library.
