Wildlife Value: Attracts butterflies and seed eaters. Butterflies and bees are attracted to the flowers for nectar, also a host for caterpillars. Birds like the seeds. 
 

Description:

An alpine buckwheat is the common yellow-flowered, matted, high-elevation species in the Sierra Nevada and is an excellent rock-garden plant.
