This restful 10,000-square-foot garden (designed by the owner, a landscape
architect) includes an extensive tree canopy and demonstrates how mature
plantings can be refashioned and reinvigorated with California natives. More
than 100 species are grown in partial shade, and many “full sun” plants
are being tested in less than ideal conditions.
